Dominique Boies, a dedicated notary

Dominique Boies heads DB Notaire, a firm located in Aylmer, in the Outaouais region. A mother of three boys and passionate about the law, she has assembled a competent and efficient team to accompany local families through life’s various transitions. Between weddings, real estate transactions and estates, the notary doesn’t hesitate to get involved in causes close to her heart.

  • Her early career as a notary

From high school onwards, Dominique was interested in the legal field. “I wanted to become a judge”, she recalls. Curious, she began studying legal techniques in CEGEP. She attended a few court hearings, then interned in a notary’s office. “That’s when it all clicked.” In 2008, she won the Prix de la Chambre des notaires du Québec.

At the time, Dominique was pursuing a certificate in criminology, but eventually chose to return to her first passion: the law. “I love finding the best solutions for my clients,” she explains. She went on to complete a bachelor’s degree in civil law with honours in 2014, then earned her master’s degree in notarial law in 2015 at the University of Ottawa. Dominique is rewarded once again, winning the Prix de la Chambre des notaires for a second time.

Guided by her mentor Ms. Louise Lambert, she finally opened her own notary’s office in the vibrant Aylmer district, after a few years as a salaried employee. Surrounding herself with a solid team enabled her to serve more clients.

    A humane and generous profession

For Dominique Boies, notarial work is a profession that helps people: “I feel very useful when I inform them about their rights, especially in difficult times. Sometimes you have to restructure everything. There are also great transactions, like weddings and the first purchase of a house.” With the multitude of files to manage, notaries’ day-to-day work is far from monotonous. Moreover, they have to attend compulsory training courses every year, which Dominique really enjoys.

When she set up her company, she chose to create a jovial and pleasant working environment, based on mutual support. As a professional and a mother, she tries to offer exemplary conditions to her employees, as she is well aware of the challenges of balancing work and family or work and studies. “We have a dynamic, high-performing team. It’s important for us to offer flexible schedules and to listen to each team member,” she adds.

    Giving back to the community

Despite her busy schedule, Ms. Boies remains committed to the region. She is a board member of Le Grand Partage, an organization that donates food baskets. She is also the main sponsor of the Aylmer Soccer Club. The goal is to train coaches, purchase sports equipment and provide access to underprivileged children. Her company also supports young race driver Marie-Soleil Labelle, as part of the Musée Gilles-Villeneuve team. Her aim is to encourage girls to break through and take place in traditionally male dominant fields such as car racing.

“I’d like to thank all the customers who put their trust in me and keep coming back. It’s thanks to them that I’m able to contribute so much and reinvest in the community,” emphasizes the businesswoman.

Dominique Boies chose the profession of notary to make an impact in people’s lives and guide them through crucial stages of their lives. Not only does her profession enable her to do this, but her firm, DB Notaire, gives her the impetus to go even further.

Kathy Henry, legal assistant specialized in real estate

Kathy Henry, the super-assistant. Her background in law and her experience as an entrepreneur makes her a highly qualified and trustworthy person.

  • Originally from New Brunswick, Kathy Henry completed a bachelor’s degree in common law at the Université de Moncton, then a licence in civil law at the University of Ottawa in 2014. It was during her master’s degree in notarial law that she and Dominique struck up a friendship. Kathy, who has been a legal assistant since 2013, finally joined Ms. Bois’ team in 2020.

    Real estate law, her specialty

Kathy Henry is the reference within the DB Notaire team for real estate transactions. “I’m in charge of preparing real estate files. I’m the main contact for real estate clients”, explains the specialized legal assistant.

Kathy Henry knows real estate law like the back of her hand. “Her role within the team and her skills are greatly appreciated - she’s my second pair of eyes!” adds Dominique Boies.

As the mother of two young children, Kathy Henry is delighted that DB Notaire allows her to work from home, helping her to reconcile work, family and entrepreneurship. She looks forward to working with the DB Notaire team for many years to come.

    A family project

With her partner, she set up a business renting inflatable games and party accessories. “It’s a family project! Later on, my children will even be able to deliver and host,” she adds with a smile.

Louise Lambert, retired notary.

Ms. Louise Lambert passes the torch after a 40-year career.

  • In 1982, the young Louise Lambert finished her notary studies. “I passed the exam for the Chambre des notaires… then I jumped in,” she recalls. At the time, the recession was hitting hard. Unable to find a job as a notary, she found a job selling insurance instead. Three months later, she contacted a notary to arrange for him to buy some products… and so began her career!

In 1986, she acquired her own notarial practice in the Aylmer region. Instead of specializing, Louise Lambert opted for a more traditional practice. “I’ve always loved my profession. Over time, I’ve built up a very strong relationship with my clients, accompanying them through the different stages of life,” she explains.

For Ms. Lambert, the human side comes first: “My profession has given me a heightened sense of empathy. Helping people and forging genuine bonds was the basis for me. She particularly enjoyed dealing with an older clientele, who showed her great trust.

    A sense of accomplishment

As she passes on the torch, Louise Lambert is delighted to have found the successor she was looking for. “I recognize myself in Dominique. She’s dedicated, gentle and empathetic. People will be in good hands with her.”

For Dominique Boies, it was also an excellent decision: “I gained several years of experience by watching her practice our profession with calm, confidence and kindness.”

Now, Ms. Lambert swaps legal texts for shovels and pruning shears. “I want to take care of my flowers and flowerbeds. I plan to renovate the house, but also to travel,” adds the woman who says she has plenty of support for this next stage in her life.

And so, with her heart and head full of fond memories, Louise Lambert bids farewell, leaving her place to her trusted colleague, Dominique Boies, notary.

I started with paralegal techniques at Cégep de l’Outaouais, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue. However, when I took my notarial law course, I interned at DB Notaire… and fell in love! It was very different from what I had imagined.” So much so, that she even aspires to obtain her master’s degree to become a notary!
